Malaccca registration plate numbers
> About 80% of motorcycles in Pulau Rupat, Riau, near Sumatra, are using Malacca registration plate numbers, Utusan Malaysia reported on its front page.
The motorcycles, believed to be stolen, were purchased by locals for RM200 to RM300 each and still retained Malacca registration numbers.
They are believed to have been smuggled by syndicates from Malacca to the island and other countries using boats.
This was exposed when Malacca CID Asst Comm Zainal Abidin Kassim saw several motorcycles carrying Malacca registration numbers moving around freely during his visit to the island last December.
